Preparation of Ternary Inclusion Complexes of Irbesartan with Hydroxypropyl-β-Cyclodextrin: Physicochemical and Thermodynamic Characterization

The main objective of the present work was to prepare and characterize ternary inclusion complexes of irbesartan with hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (Hp-β-cyclodextrin) to enhance its dissolution rate. The phase solubility diagram of irbesartan was constructed with different concentration of Hp-β-CD in the presence and absence of sodium deoxycholate at different temperature. Stability constant, complexation efficiency and thermodynamic parameters like Gibbs free energy, enthalpy and entropy were also estimated. Inclusion complexes of irbesartan with Hp-β-CD in equimolar ratio were prepared by using co-precipitation method.
